Dual Meet Scores

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill - Jatavia Wright set her second school record of the season, this time in the long jump, leading the SIUE women's track and field team to 12 event titles at the Gateway Classic Saturday at Korte Stadium.

The freshman leapt 19 feet, 4 inches placing first in the event. Wright won her second event of the day, the 100 hurdles, with a time of 14.36 seconds. Michelle Higgins placed second behind Wright in both events with marks of 18-0.5 and 15.04, respectively. Wright, the Miami, Fla., native, later finished second in both the 400 hurdles (1 minute, 8.66 seconds) and the high jump (5-1.25).

"That was outstanding," said SIUE Head Coach Kareem Jackson of Wright's performance in the long jump. "I am really happy with Jatavia and the rest of the team; they did a fine job today."

Claire Brown started the running events with a victory in the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:41.24, dropping nearly 30 seconds off her personal best.

Hilary Conrad (56.66) and Kaya Senaya (11.95) won the next two events in the 400 meters and 100 meters, respectively. Senaya improved her career best for the second straight meet, and still ranks No. 3 all-time at 100 meters.

Senaya (24.83) later edged Conrad (25.12) in the 200 meters for another event title for the Cougars.

Ioana Citireag nearly broke the SIUE record in the 800 meters as her career-best time of 2:10.60 was only .14 seconds offAftan Noon's 2010 mark. Dede Lofton placed second behind Citireag with a time of 2:15.77.

Katie Trettenero kept the winning going for SIUE as she won the 5,000 meters in 19:01.88.

Colleen McDonough recorded a personal best in the hammer reaching 173-3, improving her No. 2 all-time mark with a first-place finish.

Elizabeth Hampl was another event winner for the Cougars as the freshman won the javelin with a throw of 114-3.

SIUE also won the 4x100 relay in 47.15 seconds before closing the meet by taking the top two positions in the 4x400 relay to win the team title.

The Cougars won the meet with 239 points finishing ahead of Western Illinois (173), Bradley (64), Missouri Baptist (32), and UT Martin (22).

"I'm really excited," said Jackson after the competition. "The meet was high energy, and we had a lot of family and friends that came out to support the team."

SIUE remains at home for its final home meet of the season Saturday April 28 with the Twilight Invitational.
