BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – SIUE junior Aftan Noon broke her own SIUE record in the 800 meters leading the women's track and field team through a weather-delayed Billy Hayes Invitational Friday night.
Noon set the new record running the two laps in 2 minutes, 10.24 seconds topping her previous best set in 2010. Noon placed third overall in the event, one spot ahead of teammate Ioana Citireag (2:11.89).
Elizabeth Hampl led the SIUE throwers with the second-best throw in school history, placing fifth in the hammer with a mark of 175 feet, 0 inches. Hampl also placed second in the javelin tossing 120-5.
Kristin Wykoff earned a sixth-place finish in the shot put tossing 40-9.75.
Jatavia Wright recorded the fifth-fastest time in the preliminary round of the 100 hurdles (14.28), and later placed fifth overall in the finals at 14.70.
Kaya Senaya placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.29 after posting the fastest preliminary time at 12.40.
Hilary Conrad finished in front of Senaya (25.41) in the 200 meters as the duo finished third and fourth, respectively. Earlier in the day, Conrad (25.25) ran to a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters crossing the finish line in 56.32.
The 4x100 relay team of Michelle Higgins, Wright, Conrad, and Senaya placed third in 47.81.
Higgins also recorded a third-place finish in the triple jump leaping 37-8.75.
Claire Brown placed fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:35.18.
The Cougars are back in action May 11-12 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville.
