EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Northern Illinois' Corinne Frankenberg took advantage of a Cougar miscue and scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 win over SIUE at Korte Stadium.

SIUE women's soccer dropped to 0-2 to start the 2012 season and will look to rebound at home Friday against Drake at 7 p.m. Northern Illinois evened its record to 1-1.

SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton said the Cougars had their opportunities but were unable to connect.

"That's probably more frustrating than the goal we gave up because it was the same thing on Friday (at Indiana State)," said Burton.

NIU outshot SIUE 7-6 and held a 3-1 advantage in shots taken during the first half. The two teams were in the locker room at halftime scoreless, but the Huskies would tally its goal early in the second half.

Frankenburg found herself in a key position right in front of the goal when SIUE goalkeeper Courtney Vonderhaar was unable to clear a pass. Frankenburg took advantage and scored the game's only goal.

"You never want to blame any one goal on any one person. There's usually a mistake that was made beforehand that led to the dangerous situation. But that's the game sometimes. Sometimes it hurts; but we'll be ready for the next game," said Burton.

SIUE's best chance came late in the second half. After a foul just past the middle of the field, SIUE's Kourtney Price unleashed a strong attack on NIU. Goalkeeper Amy Carr's only play against Price's long shot was to tip it over the goal as she was moving backward.

Price and Katye Skrivan each had two shots for the Cougars. Courtney Ksiazek led the Huskies in shots with three.

"It's early so there's still a lot of adjustments to be made in terms of who plays with who in certain formations. We're still finding our identity but we're working at it. The girls' outlook is still very positive. They're still keeping their heads up," Burton said.
