PREVIEW: Track & Field Visits SEMO Friday

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – With only three weeks left until the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, the SIUE men's and women's track & field teams will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., for a dual meet against Southeast Missouri State Friday.

The meet is scheduled to begin with field events at 4 p.m., before track events are set to start at approximately 6 p.m.  All competition will take place inside SEMO's Student North Recreation Center.

This is the only dual meet on SIUE's schedule, a competition in which the Cougars will be going head-to-head against another OVC program.

"We've been trying to get this on our schedule for a while now, and I'm thankful (SEMO Head Coach) Eric Crumpecker agreed to make this meet happen," Head Coach Kareem Jackson said.  "Hopefully this is the start of a competitive rivalry between our two programs."

Friday's competition will be the Cougars' fourth meet in the last two weeks, as they continue to prepare for OVC Championships in Charleston, Ill., Feb. 22-23.

Last weekend at the Redbird Invite in Normal, Ill., SIUE saw a pair of women's school records fall as Kaya Senaya set a new program best in the 60 meters (7.71 seconds) while Colleen McDonough broke the program record in the shot put (47 feet, 10.5 inches).

"SEMO is a conference contender every year," Jackson added.  "We're going to need every event group to step up if we want to be successful against them.  It's going to have to be a team effort."
