EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE men's and women's track and field teams will host the first of two outdoor home meets this weekend when they hold the Cougar Classic Saturday afternoon at Korte Stadium.
Field events are scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. before track events get underway at 2 p.m. Illinois State and Southeast Missouri also will be competing at the meet.
"We're excited to have two really solid programs coming in to compete," SIUE Head Coach Kareem Jackson said. "It should be an exciting meet with some really good competition all the way around."
Saturday will mark the first meet of the outdoor season for SIUE, which was last in action Feb. 23 at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Charleston, Ill.
The SIUE men finished fourth at the OVC Championships while the Cougar women finished fifth.
Leading the way for the men will be sprinter Ahmad Evans, the school's current outdoor record holder in the 100 meters (10.64) and the 200 meters (21.24).
On the women's side, sophomore Jatavia Wright will be looking to better her outdoor program records of 14.16 in the 100m hurdles and 19 feet, 4 inches in the long jump.
