EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE men's and women's track and field teams will hit the road once again this weekend as they travel to compete in the Hilltopper Relays at Western Kentucky.
The hammer throw will take place at 4 p.m. Friday while all other events will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday. All competition will take place at the Charles M. Ruter Track & Field Complex on the WKU campus.
Last weekend, the Cougars traveled to Southeast Missouri State for the Joey Haines Invite.
On the men's side, sophomore Ahmad Evans placed first in the 200 meters (21.04) while freshman Darius Smith took first in the 100 meters (10.60).
The SIUE men currently rank 20th in the Midwest Region according to U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches' Association, posting a team total of 106.33 points. Evans ranks sixth regionally in the 200 while Smith is currently eighth in the 100.
For the SIUE women, freshman Jessica Oranika took home first place honors in the 800 meters (2:12.42) at SEMO last weekend. Fellow freshman LaDonna Caston also impressed, placing second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.10.
