DES MOINES, Iowa – Claire Brown and Elizabeth Hampl represented the SIUE track and field program at the 105th Drake Relays Saturday morning.
Brown placed 15th in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:56.38. The time is nearly 13 seconds off Brown's school record of 10:43.98, set earlier this month at the Florida Relays.
"It's nice to not be happy with what would have been a personal best for Claire last year and what is her second-fastest time (in the 3,000m steeplechase)," Interim Head Coach Eileen McAllister said.
Hampl finished 12th out of 25 athletes in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 173-11. She set a school record of 198-4 two weeks ago at the Missouri Relays.
"It wasn't our day, but it was still a good learning experience," McAllister added. "I'm glad they were able to experience the historic Drake Relays."
The Cougars will now gear up for the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship next weekend in Edwardsville. Field events are scheduled to begin at noon on Friday while track events start at 3 p.m.
