Cougars Fall to Purdue 4-1

Box Score

SIUE women's soccer completed the weekend with a 4-1 loss against Purdue Sunday.

"We played a really solid first half and started the second half well," said SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton. "But we are still searching for that consistency in our determination."

The Boilermakers struck first with a goal in the 19th minute from Sora Toppin-Herbert.

SIUE answered with a goal from junior Cassidy Sherman in the 33rd minute. The goal was assisted by junior Katye Skrivan. The goal is Sherman's second goal of the year.

"The goal was unbelievable," said Burton. "She is an outstanding player. That goal tied the game and gave us more life."

Purdue ended the half with a goal from Erika Arkans, and then scored twice in the second half to close out the game.

Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley recorded four saves. The Boilermakers outshot the Cougars 20-4.

"Overall, it was a good experience to play a Big Ten school like Purdue," said Burton. "We just have to realize that it's never time to stop learning."

The Cougars return to Korte Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m. against UMKC.
