Cougars Grab Second Consecutive Win Over North Dakota State

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer tallied its second consecutive win with a 1-0 victory over North Dakota State Friday at Korte Stadium.

The win moves the Cougars up to 3-3-1 overall.

"It's nice to start the weekend with a shutout against a good team," said Head Coach Derek Burton. "We did a good job of standing up to pressure and keeping composure."

SIUE scored its lone goal early in the sixth minute. Senior Michelle Auer netted a ball from ten yards out to the far left post, her second goal on the year. The goal was assisted by Rachael Brots.

"When Michelle is feeling it, she can be really dangerous," said Burton. "That goal was not an easy technique at all. It was good to see her provide some senior leadership."

The Cougars managed to keep the Bison scoreless for the remainder of the game. The game is the second shutout in a row for SIUE, and junior Jennifer Pelley's 18th career shutout.

"Jen will be the first to tell you that most shutouts are a team effort," said Burton. "They did a good job of being where they needed to be, and Jen did a good job of communicating from behind."

SIUE outshot the Bison 13-5. Pelley grabbed three saves.

The Cougars travel to Springfield, Mo. Sunday to play Missouri State at 1 p.m.
