Cougars Perform Well in Day Two of Meyo Invitational

Complete Meyo Invitational Results

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After two new school records from Elizabeth Hampl and Darius Smith in day one, SIUE track and field had several exceptional performances during day two of the Meyo Invitational.

Freshman Brittney Gibbs recorded another mark in the triple jump over 40 feet. She jumped 40 feet, 0.75 inches, just missing finals.

"To be consistently jumping over 40 feet as a freshman while competing on a stage like that is good for her," said Head Coach Eileen McAllister. "This will pay off down the road."

Keith Meyer recorded a personal best by over 20 seconds in the 3,000 meter run. His time of 8 minutes, 35.80 seconds placed him third in his heat.

Braxton Klavins finished 11th overall in the 400 meters with a time of 47.65.

"Braxton has overcome injury issues. He came back and had a good race today," said McAllister.

Ahmad Evans also recorded another personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 48.95 seconds.

Julian Harvey finished ninth in the triple jump, recording a mark of 48-2.75.

"It was a good weekend for us and we still have work to do," said McAllister. "We have one more big meet next weekend with great competition and great facilities which will help us finalize things for conference."

SIUE will compete Feb. 13-14 in the GVSU Big Meet.
