BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Megan Lauzon, Lizzie Virgl, and Elizabeth Hampl of SIUE women's track and field threw personal and season bests in day one of the WKU Hilltopper Relays.
Hampl threw 191 feet, 10 inches in the hammer throw, a season best for the senior and good enough for sixth place. She sits 26th in the NCAA West, qualifying her for the first round.
"The mark for Hampl allows her to breathe easier," said Head Coach Eileen McAllister. "She has a lot more to accomplish, but this gives her reassurance."
Freshman Lizzie Virgl threw two personal bests in the hammer, resulting in a throw of 157-0 for an eighth place finish. Virgl is currently eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference.
"Lizzie took advantage of making finals," added McAllister. "She threw personal bests in her first two throws of finals. She did a nice job of staying focused and progressing."
Megan Lauzon also threw a personal best in the hammer with a mark of 141-08, placing her 11th.
"It was a nice start," said McAllister "and we are looking forward to day 2."
The Cougars continue day two of the Hilltopper Relays Saturday at 9 a.m.
