NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Megan Lauzon and Julian Harvey earned wins in one event each at day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Chamionships.

Lauzon started the day off for the Cougars by earning the first OVC crown in the discus with a toss of 160 feet, 8 inches.

Harvey earned his victory in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 25-0.25. Harvey also earned a second place finish in the high jump at 7-0.5

Matt O'Connor broke his own record set previously this season in the 800 at 1:51.19 to advance to the finals in day two.

Many Cougars set personal bests during day one, including OVC Male Freshman of the Year Nick Matthews. He threw a mark of 181-10 in the javelin to earn third place.

Haley Miller became No. 2 all-time at SIUE in the steeplechase with a personal best of 11 minutes, 6.78 seconds, earning fifth in the meet. On the men's side, Ben Scamihorn also set a career best in the steeplechase at 9:21.18.

Both Francesca Sikorski and Conradette King set career bests in the 800. Sikorski finished the two laps in 2:17.18 while King finished in 2:26.07.

The distance crew had solid performances in the 10K from Keith Meyer, who placed second with a time of 30:36.57, and Tyler Owens, who set a personal best of 31:52.09. Erin Kennedy earned a fifth-place finish in the 10K on the women's side while Jess Clarke set a personal best of 37:57.92.

Lizzie Virgl threw a career best mark of 129-2 in the discus. Justin Agustin added a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.47. Dalton Oakes ran a time of 15.42 in the 110-meter hurdles for a career best.

Bobby Kaluza will advance to the finals of the 110-meter hurdles in day two. LaDonna Caston earned a trip to the finals in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 100 meter dash.

The OVC Championships continue Saturday. After one day of competition, the women are in fourth place and the men sit in third.
