CARBONDALE, Ill. – The SIUE track and field teams had a solid weekend at the Bill Cornell Classic at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex. The SIUE distance teams set five different individual personal records.
The discus was the lone event that took place Friday. Martinus Mitchell took third place (46.32 meters) for the Cougars in the men's discus.
In the distance races, Aly Goff took third (4:43.72) in the women's 1500m. The Cougars had five different PRs in the 1500m, including Allie Sweatt (4:51.31) and Keri Burmester (5:09.17) for the women and Landon Skelly (3:58.33), Austin Woodard (4:10.49) and Kevin Campbell (4:17.18) for the men. Haley Miller placed ninth in the women's 1500m with a season best time of 4:46.96.
Julian Harvey won the men's long jump with a leap of 24 feet, 7.75 inches and Brittney Gibbs placed second in the women's triple jump (39-10.75).
In Lauren White's season debut, she placed sixth in the women's 200m (25.55) and ninth in the 100m (12.50). In the men's 100m, Harvey finished ninth (10.93) and DeVonte Tincher tenth (10.99). Tincher also placed fifth in the men's 200m (22.28).
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend. There are two meets scheduled with the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and the Washington University Invite in St. Louis.
