Cougars Shine Day One of Coastal Carolina Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, Sc. – The SIUE track and field teams had a successful first day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational Friday. Multiple cougars won their events and many more placed top-5.

For the SIUE men, Nick Matthews placed first while setting a personal record (60.23 meters) in the hammer throw. The Cougars also took third (Alec Dutton, 54.02), fifth (Austin Lynch, 49.16) and sixth (John Barnes, 48.85) place in the hammer.

In the long jump the Cougars took first through third place. Julian Harvey is back to his old ways, placing first (24 feet, 4.5 inches), Logan Webb second (22-10.5) and DeVonte Tincher third (22-4.5).

The SIUE women had a very successful first day with Nichyria Byrd and Lizzie Virgl winning their individual events.

Virgl won the hammer throw (55.40) while also placing fourth in the javelin (34.90). Byrd was the winner in the long jump with a leap of 19-9.25.

The SIUE women (Jalea PaslayKassidy DexheimerHaley Miller and Aly Goff) took third place in the 4x800m relay with a time 9:51.40.

The meet will continue tomorrow starting at 10:30 am C.T. with the track events.
