EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's and women's track and field competed in its first home meet since 2019 on Saturday. Bobby Nuzzo, Paris Somerville, Maryiah Menicucci, and Kailah Carter earned first-place finishes in their respective events while several athletes set new PR's.
Throws:
Stephanie Montenegro led the Cougars with a ninth-place finish in the women's discuss with a 36.41m toss. Dominika Baranska placed second in the hammer with a 53.28m throw, good for a PR. Maryiah Menicucci grabbed gold in the women's shot put with a 13.27m mark, good for a career best. Allison Sanders finished ninth in the javelin with a 30.37m toss.
Luke Hatten represented SIUE in the men's discuss with a seventh place, 38.32m mark. Joel Degracia placed seventh in the men's hammer with a 45.09m throw. Hatten also led the men in the shot put with a 14.32m mark.
Jumps:
Aseanti Boone led the women in the high jump with a 1.53m mark, taking fourth place. Harper Smith collected sixth with a 1.48m leap. In the long jump, Savannah Sullivan led SIUE with a 5.63m mark. Izzy Kennedy earned fourth in the women's triple jump with an 11.40m leap.
For the men, Caden Belcher placed third in the men's high jump while setting a PR with a 1.88m mark.
Sprints and Hurdles:
Priscilla Jones led the women in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line at 12.43 for a season best mark and second-place finish. Vashanti Reynolds (12.51) and Nyah Williams (12.70) finished back-to-back at fifth and sixth place in the event. In the 100m hurdles, Somerville collected first-place with a 14.21 mark, good for a career best time while ranking fourth in program history. Reynolds earned second in the event with a 14.37 finish, also good for a PR.
Folasade Oladipupo placed eighth in the women's 200m dash with a 26.14 time. Junior Kailah Carter finished first and set a PR in the women's 400m dash with a 56.30 mark. In the 400m hurdles, Aseanti Boone led the Cougars with a fourth place, 1:11.60
In the men's 100m sprint, Nuzzo earned gold with a 10.78 finish. The senior also collected first in the men's 200m dash with a 21.73 time. Konrad Sacha earned silver in the event with a 22.00 mark. Cole Knapp grabbed second in the men's 400m hurdles with a 56.00 time, good for a career best. Taylor Lehman finished sixth at 58.54
Mid-Distance and Distance:
D'Andre Watson earned seventh in the men's 800m with a 2:00.43 time. Senior Cameron Woodard earned silver in the men's 3000m steeple with a 10:03.90 mark. Roland Prenzler placed second in the men's 3000m with an 8:39.58 finish, good for a PR. Prenzler's time is good for second in program history. Tyler Guthie (8:55.36/4th), Spencer Hielkema (8:56.27/5th), Zach Walters (8:58.52/6th), and Jackson Edwards (9:23.42/12th) also competed in the event.
Junior Natalia Rodriguez collected seventh in the women's 1500m with a 5:00.66 finish, good for a career best time. She also led the women in the 3000m with a 10:47.18 mark, also good for a PR. Kaitlyn Walker (10:53.31/5th) and Alexis Fischer (10:53/5th) also earned top 10 finishes in the event.
Relays:
The women's 4x100m relay team of Vashanti Reynolds, Folasade Oladipupo, Kaylee Allen, and Nyah Williams placed third with a 49.08 time. The 4x400 team of Hanna Anderson, Gabby Horton, Kaylee Allen, and Kailah Carter earned second with a 3:58.83 time.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Caden Belcher, Chase Burston, Cole Knapp, and Konrad Sacha finished third with a 3:30.55 mark.
