Track and Field Wraps Competition at Gary Wieneke Memorial

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – SIUE men's and women's track and field competed on Friday and Saturday in the Gary Wieneke Memorial meet at Demirjian Park on the campus of Illinois. Several athletes set career best marks in their respective events.

Throws:

In the women's hammer, Dominika Baranska finished eighth with a 50.94m toss. Joel Degracia (44.30m) and Luke Hatten (43.42) competed in the hammer on the men's side. Hatten also finished seventh in the men's shot put while setting a PR with a 14.57m throw.

Allison Sanders finished eighth in the women's javelin with a 30.53m throw, good for a career best. She also earned third in the women's discuss with a 42.03m toss, also setting a PR. Alexis Hutchins led the Cougars in the women's shot put with a 12.59m mark.

Jumps:

Savannah Sullivan finished seventh in the women's long jump with a 5.46m leap. Junior Dakota Krone collected fifth in the women's triple jump while setting a career best with an 11.40m mark.

Hurdles and Sprints:

Hanna Anderson led the Cougars in the 100m dash with a fourth-place finish and 12.81 time. In the 200m dash, Kailah Carter earned a seventh-place finish while setting a PR with a 25.45 mark. Kaylee Allen placed fifth in the 400m with a 1:00.04 time, good for a PR.

Vashanti Reynolds finished seventh overall and crossed the finish line at 14.63 in the 100m hurdles. She also led SIUE in the 400m hurdles with a 1:14.08 mark while setting a career best time.

Chase Burston competed in the 100m dash and finished 11th with an 11.52 mark. Senior Bobby Nuzzo finished third in the men's 200m with a 21.43 time, good for a career best mark. Cole Knapp led the Cougars in the 400m hurdles, earning fifth with a 55.94 time.

Mid-Distance and Distance:

In the men's 800m, D'Andre Watson placed 11th and crossed the finish line at 2:07.04. Zach Walters (4:04.53) competed in the men's 1500m while Courtney Anthonies ran in the women's 1500m. Both marks were personal bests. Gabby Horton led the women in the 800m with a seventh-place finish at 2:21.11.

Cameron Woodard (10:03.43/9th) and Blake Panagos (10:44.75/10th) finished back-to-back in the men's 3000m steeple. In the women's 5000m, Kailyn Walker crossed the finish line at 18:20.04 to lead the Cougars while setting a PR. On the men's side of the 5000m, Roland Prenzler finished seventh with a 14:47.98 time, also good for a PR.

Relays:

The women's 4x100m relay team of Vashanti Reynolds, Folasade Oladipupo, Kaylee Allen, and Priscilla Jones finished second with a 48.01 time. The Cougars' team of Jade Bivins, Sheena Cumberbatch, Nyah Williams, and Paris Somerville finished third at 50.74.

Up Next: The Cougars will travel to Memphis, Tennessee for their final meet of the outdoor season on Friday, Apr. 28 before hosting the OVC Track and Field Championships.
