Cougars Close Out Ichabod Invitational Saturday

TOPEKA, Kan. – SIUE track and field competed in its final indoor meet of the season before the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship at the Ichabod Invitational. Several student-athletes finished in the top five of their respective events while setting personal best marks in the process.

Throws:

Luke Hatten threw for a PR in the men's shot put with a 14.82m toss for eighth. Grant Milbrath finished 14th at 13.84m. On the women's side, Claire Bushur led the Cougars with a 12.35m mark. Maryiah Menicucci (17th/12.19m), Alexis Hutchins (18th/12.14m), and Stephanie Montenegro (23rd/11.78m) also threw in the shot put.

Milbrath also placed second in the men's weight throw with an 18.33m mark. His toss was good for a PR. Hatten took 19th at 14.82m. Hutchins finished third in the women's weight throw at 17.36m. Allison Sanders (19th/14.34m), Gabby Yaccino (25th/13.91m), and Montenegro (28th/13.42m) also competed.

Jumps:

In the men's open high jump, Drew Tucker finished fifth at 1.90m. Caden Belcher claimed sixth at 1.85m. In the women's high jump invite, Harper Smith finished 11th with a 1.55m jump. In the women's high jump open, Zaria Searcy and Aseanti Boone tied for third at 1.55m.

Folasade Oladipupo led SIUE in the women's long jump, posting a 5.62m mark for sixth. Sheena Cumberbatch (22nd/5.17m) and Dakota Krone (28th/5.09m) also competed in the event.

Cumberbatch also competed in the women's triple jump, posting an 11.15m mark for 10th.

Sprints and Hurdles:

Kaylee Allen improved on her 60m time in Friday's qualifier, placing fourth at 7.76. Alise Simon also competed in Friday's qualifier, placing 68th with an 8.65 mark. In Saturday's preliminary round, Allen placed 17th at 7.78. Konnor Bouman represented the men in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line at 7.34 for 73rd overall.

Taylor Lehman ran for a PR during Saturday's 60m hurdle prelims, posting an 8.47 mark. Simon McLaine also competed in the event and placed 22nd at 8.64. Leman (7th/8.51), Tyler Bell (13th/8.63), McLaine (16th/8.67), and Cole Knapp (33rd/9.04) competed in Friday's 60m hurdle qualifier.

On the women's side of the 60m hurdles, Mia Jackson placed 20th overall during the preliminary race with a 9.36 mark. She earned eighth in Friday's prelims at 9.37 while Priscilla Jones collected 17th at 9.78.

Allen also represented SIUE in the women's 200m dash, placing 23rd while setting a PR with a 25.43 mark. Bouman earned 42nd in the men's 200m at 23.36.

Kailah Carter led SIUE in the women's 400m, placing sixth overall at 57.48. Makayla White earned 34th at 1:00.86. Konrad Sacha led the men in the 400m with a seventh-place finish at 49.48. Chase Burton earned 24th at 49.98.

Gabrielle Horton claimed seventh in the women's 600y race en route to a career best time at 1:28.58.

Mid-Distance and Distance:

Courtney Anthonies finished 44th in the women's 800m at 2:35.46 while Megan Derrick took 51st at 2:39.76. D'Andre Watson ran on the men's side of the 800m, placing 36th with a 1:59.76 time.

Tyler Guthrie led the men in the mile race, collecting 39th at 4:31.63. His time was good for a career best. Blake Panagos earned 56th at 4:49.06. Mia Loafman paced the women in the mile, earning 19th at 5:25.73. Lexi Kampwerth finished 44th at 5:48.25.

In the women's 3,000m, Kaitlyn Walker led SIUE, taking 14th overall at 10:45.83. Alexis Fischer (27th/11:18.96), Olivia Wolf (28th/11:20.03), Caroline Gwaltney (36th/11:44.33), and Chessy Nikonowicz (39th/11:58.68) also competed in the event. Zach Walters represented the men in the 3,000m, placing 29th while setting a PR at 8:48.04.

Walker earned fifth in the women's 5,000m at 19:29.33. Natalia Rodriguez placed 13th at 19:30.33 while Riley Doyle took 18th at 20:27.13.

Spencer Hielkema led SIUE in the men's 5,000m and set a PR, crossing the finish line at 14:52.96. His mark ranks fifth in program history. Roland Prenzler followed with an eighth-place finish at 15:20.38 while Jackson Edwards earned 17th at 15:59.31.

Relays:

The women's relay team of Kaylee Allen, Makalya White, Gabrielle Horton, and Kailah Carter finished sixth in the 4x400m relay. The men's 4x400m relay squad of Chase Burston, Taylor Lehman, Simon McLaine, and Konrad Sacha took eighth.

The men's distance medley team of Zach Walters, Cole Knapp, Cullen Krieg, and D'Andre Watson earned third while the women's squad of Mia Loafman, Megan Derrick, Courtney Anthonies, and Lexi Kampwerth finished eighth.

SIUE track and field concludes its indoor portion of the schedule at the OVC Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Alabama. Action will get underway on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
