LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships was highlighted by
Grant Milbrath's first place finish in the men's weight throw at 22.34m (73-4). This performance is a new Personal record for Milbrath and sets a new program record.
Teagan Sullivan found a second-place finish in the women' long jump at 5.70m (18-8.50).
Tyler Bell also finished second in the preliminary round of the men's 60m hurdles (8.11), Bell also competed in the men's 60m prelims (6th/6.90).
Mia Jackson placed third (8.78) in the preliminary round of the women's 400m as well. Jackson and Bell will move on to the final rounds of their events Wednesday.
Other qualifiers in their preliminary rounds included Conrad Sacha's sixth place finish (49.41) in the men's 400m,
Norman Mukwada qualified for the men's 200m finishing seventh (21.66), this time also ranks fourth in the programs indoor top five performances.
Also competing in the men's weight throw was
Tanner Gimm, placed ninth at 10.70m (35-1). In the women's weight throw
Josie Hapack placed fifth overall at 15.91m (52-2). Following her was
Allison Sanders in sixth (15.79m / 51-10) and
Maryiah Menicucci in ninth (15.12m / 49-7).
Olivia Smith also competed in the women's long jump finishing in 18th (4.92m / 16-1.75) and
Cassidy Short placed 20th (4.86m / 15-11.25).
Also competing in the men's 60m hurdles was
Simon McClaine (12th/8.44) and
Darius Alberty (15th/8.72).
Olivia Hansen also competed in the women's 60m hurdles finishing ninth (9.27).
Plamedi Nseka also competed in the men's 400m taking ninth (49.78) and was followed by Mukwada in 13th (50.31). On the women's side
Kaylee Allen finished in ninth (58.92) and
Jaiden Parker placed 13th (59.45).
Others competing in the men's 60m were
Trenton Brooks (15th/7.04) and
Konnor Bouman (26th/7.40). The women's 60m included
Jazmin West (11th/7.75),
Lena Jackson (12th/7.80) and
Calie Field (19th/7.99). Jackson, West and Field also ran the women's 200m. Jackson finished the 200m at 25.23, following her was West (26.02) and Field (26.06).
Nathaniel Wright was the lone Cougars to run the men's 800m, placing 15th in the preliminary round with a time of 1:56.87.
Leading the men's 5000m for SIUE was Ian O'Laughlin with a time of 15:43.53 and following him was
Jack Willenborg at 15:52.30.
Kinze Shea ran the women's 5000m with a time of 18:56.43.
Three athletes competed in the women's high jump, Zaria Search placed ninth (1.61m/5-3.50),
Harper Smith placed 10th (1.56m/4-11.5) and
Aseanti Boone followed in 11yh (1.51m/54-11.5).
SIUE had two teams competing in the Distance Medley Relay. The women's team placed third (12:04.69), including
Lexy Henrikson,
Kennedy Williams,
Kaylee Sprague and
Erica Woodard. The men's team consisted of
D'Andre Watson,
Plamedi Nseka, Cullen Kreig and
Tanner Emerson, placing fifth at 10:18.71.
The Cougars will continue competing in the OVC Indoor Championships Wednesday at 9 a.m.
